You Are Not Your Thoughts: Finding Relief from Persistent Mental Intrusion.

Intrusive thoughts—unwanted, repetitive, and often distressing mental images or "what if" scenarios—can be exhausting and isolating. For many women, these thoughts intensify during major hormonal shifts, particularly following childbirth (Postpartum OCD) or during high-stress life transitions. At Vita Psychiatry for Women, Dr. Danielle Craig provides a safe, non-judgmental space to address these symptoms. We specialize in differentiating between generalized anxiety and clinical OCD, helping you understand the biological "mismatch" in the brain that causes these thoughts to stick. Our goal is to reduce the shame, lower the distress, and provide evidence-based medical strategies to help you regain mental peace.

Our Process

Providing a clear and supportive roadmap for your wellness journey.

Specialized Diagnostic Differentiation

Not all intrusive thoughts are the same. Dr. Craig conducts a 75-minute evaluation to distinguish between "anxious "rumination" and clinical OCD, ensuring your treatment plan is precise and effective.

Targeted Neurochemical Support

Using her expertise as a board-certified psychiatrist, Dr. Craig manages medications that specifically target the serotonin pathways involved in intrusive thinking, tailored to your specific reproductive stage.

Safety & Risk Education

One of the greatest burdens of intrusive thoughts is the fear they cause. We provide "Risk vs. Thought" education, helping you understand why these thoughts occur and providing the clinical reassurance that having a thought is not the same as an impulse.

Collaborative Specialist Network

For those who benefit from Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy, Dr. Craig coordinates care with specialized therapists to ensure your medication and behavioral tools are working in tandem.

Break the Cycle of Distressing Thoughts

You don't have to carry the weight of these thoughts alone. Partner with a physician who understands the biology of intrusive thinking and the path to recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Providing clarity and peace of mind as you begin your care.

Are intrusive thoughts a sign that I am a "bad" person or a danger?

Absolutely not. Intrusive thoughts are often "ego-dystonic," meaning they are the opposite of what you actually want or value. They are a symptom of a highly sensitized nervous system, not a reflection of your character or intentions.

Is this the same as Postpartum Psychosis?

This is a vital distinction. Intrusive thoughts (often part of Postpartum OCD) are very common and involve "scary thoughts" that the mother finds deeply upsetting. Dr. Craig is an expert in identifying these differences and providing the correct care and reassurance.

Can medication help stop these "looping" thoughts?

Yes. Certain evidence-based medications can help "lower the volume" of the thoughts and reduce the physiological distress they cause, making it easier for you to use coping skills and return to daily life.

What if I’m too embarrassed to talk about my specific thoughts?

Dr. Craig creates a high-trust, professional environment where "dignity" is the priority. She has years of experience hearing these common symptoms and provides a clinical, shame-free space to discuss them.
